@ references in additional render locations?

Hey! is it possible to use the @@ type references within the additional render locations? I was attempting to add a plates folder within my shot folder to contain the main and undistorted versions of the plate but am not seeing it pop up when I refresh. or is there a better built-in place to put plates aside from 2d render or 3d render?
